ASCII art is also called text art. Basically, it is a graphic design technique that is used in computers for display and comprises of pictures knitted together from the 95 printable characters that are defined by the ASCII Standard in 1963 and ASCII compliant character sets with proprietary extended characters.
Some interesting facts about ASCII art are that it started its adoption in the early days when printers generally do not have the ability for graphics and instead characters were used as a substitution for graphic marks.
In the early email days, ASCII art was used instead of images as images could not be embedded in an email.
